Höhenstraße Trail Run
The course leaves from the Hungerburg station, climbs through forest for the first eight kilometres, then runs the ridge where the view does the persuading.
There are two starts: a timed field at seven and an untimed one at nine for anyone who would rather look around. Both use the same course and the same soup at the finish.
The band at the summit is a genuine Innsbruck brass band that has done this for eleven years and plays regardless of weather. Runners who finish inside three hours hear the whole set; the rest hear the part the band likes best.
Marshals sit at every junction from six in the morning. The descent is the part that hurts, and the last water point is deliberately placed at the top of it.
Entries close a week before. Shoes with a real sole; the ridge section is loose rock for about a kilometre.
