Werkstatt Week: The Workshops Reopened
Weaving, metal, carpentry and the print shop all open at the same time, staffed by people who make things for a living rather than explain them.
You can watch, and in four of the seven rooms you can work. Places are handed out each morning at nine on the door, twelve per room, no list.
The weaving workshop runs the oldest looms in the building and has the longest queue, so it opens an hour earlier than the rest. Threading a loom takes most of a morning, and visitors who commit to it are given a place for the whole week.
Evening talks are held in the canteen because that is where they were held. They start at eight, run under an hour, and are followed by no reception whatsoever.
The metal workshop is the loudest room and the one children ask to go back to. Ear protection is on the wall by the door.
