Rooftop Sessions: Six Nights of Catalan Jazz
The series moves every evening. A different roof, a different quartet, the same upright piano hauled up by four people who have got very good at it.
Sets run ninety minutes without an interval. The players are told the roof, the hour and nothing else, which is why the second set of the week rarely resembles the first.
The bill leans local without making a point of it: three of the six leaders are under thirty, two have never recorded, and one has been playing the same Thursday residency in Gràcia since 1994. They are not billed in that order.
Seating is folding chairs and whatever the building offers. Tickets carry the address only on the day, sent at four in the afternoon.
If it rains the night moves indoors to a rehearsal room on Carrer d'Aribau, and the piano stays where it is.
