Ghost Light: Six Nights at the Lyceum
The company rehearses the first two acts once and then leaves the third open. Each afternoon a writer is given four hours and the cast, and the audience gets whatever comes of it.
Nobody is told which ending they are seeing. The programme is printed after the show and handed out on the way to the street.
The writers are not announced in advance and range from a novelist who has never written for stage to the theatre's own literary manager, who took the Wednesday and reportedly used all four hours. Two are writing in Scots.
Two of the six nights are being recorded, which the cast are told about on the day, and which visibly changes nothing.
Running time is around two hours and twenty minutes with one interval, give or take whatever the afternoon produced.
